Our upflush for bathroom in basement is switching on about every hour as though the toilet has been flushed.

Upflush toilets do come with their own limitations and problems. Super unusual and the result of a lazy builder. Pull the vent pipe from the top and loosen the coupling or union that joins the waste line together wrap a towel around the pipe to catch any water. Upflush toilets differ the most from standard toilets in the discharge system.
